This is a list of bulbs for spring planting which will flower during the summer. Most of these need a fairly warm well-drained sunny spot, many of them can be grown in containers as well as in the garden and a few make very good house plants - see individual varieties for details.

Acidanthera (Peacock Orchid) - - large white flowers with purple blotch in July/August. Height 18/24ins. Plant March/April. 15 Bulbs for £1.25 (postage and packing 95p)

Anemones - well known poppy-like flowers with ferny foliage, about 8ins high. Will flower June/July. We have single flowering and double varieties in mixed colours. 15 Bulbs for £1.25 (p/p 95p)

Arum Cornutum (Voodoo Lily)- Large woodland bulb produces large leaves and a purple spathe flower in early summer. Height 18ins. Plant Feb/April. £3.00 each (p/p 95p)

Begonias- Showy summer flowering plants, can be used as a house plant, for bedding or makes a good specimen plant in a tub. The trailing varieties make very good basket plants. Begonia corms need to be started off inside in some heat in shallow pots or trays in February/March and then planted out in May/June when all danger of frost has passed.

Callas - Sometimes known as Arum Lilys, callas produce their spathe-like flowers throughout summer. They need to be started off inside in a pot and can be put outside May/June. Available in red, salmon, maroon and yellow. £1.75 each, 3 for £5.00 (p/p 95p single tuber, £1.50 per 3 tubers)

Cannas - Striking summer flowering plant with banana-like leaves and large colourful spikes of flowers. They need to be started off in side Feb/March and planted out as a growing plant in May/June. Dahlias - Indispensable late summer flowering plants with bright showy flowers. They grow from tubers which are best brought into growth inside Feb/ April before planting out in May/June when danger of frost has passed.

Eucomis (Pineapple Plant) - Striking and unusual plant for either indoor culture or a warm sunny spot outside. It has strap-like fleshy leaves from which rises a spike of green/ purple flowers, very waxy and long lasting. £1.00 per bulb, 3 for £2.50 (p/p 95p per bulb, £1.50 for 3 bulbs)

Galtonia (Giant Summer Hyacinth)- Tall spikes of white bell flowers, like a large hyacinth are produced in July and August. Grows 3-4ft high. £1.25 each (p/p 95p)

Gladioli - Large family of flowering bulbs with long spikes of flowers in late summer. They like a sunny position and some of the taller varieteis may need staking.
